If you’re staying at one of our cozy properties, here’s a few things that will help you during your stay.
First rule: Enjoy your stay!
We love opening our house to you and your loved ones. All we ask is that you treat our place like your own.Byron homes (Byron, Belongil and Mansion):
House manual Byron main 5br
Internet password is on fridge magnet; somehow this is the thing people ask for before anything else 🙂 You’re in Byron now, so maybe give the phone and social media a rest and chill in nature for a refreshing change of pace 🙂 If you insist, the wifi password is on the fridge.
Other things to note —
We have a microwave, griller and oven. The bottom two are pretty easy, but the microwave is complex as it’s convection. Instructions for use here –> https://bit.ly/24microwave — call us if you need help 🙂
Toilets:
you may notice some murky residue in the bottom of the toilet bowl after flushing. Relax: it’s not your partner or kids! The toilets use rainwater and occasional brown leaf litter is a feature of the sustainable system, not a bug.
Pool:
We provide compliant fencing and safety features, but your personal safety is ultimately your responsibility. Please supervise all children. No glassware is allowed in the pool enclosure. Cans and plastic ok. The sandstone edge is less slippery than tiles but caution is advised around edges. Pls wash off sand and sunscreen before using pool, as the water filter cannot cope with oil & sand.
Nature & bugs:
The house backs onto a giant nature reserve, so you may notice magpies, kookaburras, bush turkeys and other birds in the yard.
These are a delight to see and hear; they also exist on a diet of rogue insects such as spiders, flies and mosquitoes. If bugs bother you, please use citronella candles or non-toxic solutions so as not to affect the birds.
Please keep screen doors closed to prevent bugs and very brave birds from coming into the house. Crows and magpies will enter the house if the screens are left open. It sounds funny but it can be dangerous to pets, kids and to the birds themselves.
Yes, we have a gecko. His name is Bobby and he eats the moths and mosquitoes inside the house. When you see him, don’t scream; just say “Thanks Bobby”. Please avoid bug spray inside so you don’t poison Bobby’s food. Mosquito coils are provided. Fun fact: the gecko is considered a god in Indonesia.
Kitchen:
Please check for children before opening the fridge door. Face-plants seem hilarious on YouTube but not if it’s your own family! Please use the extractor every time when cooking on the stove to prevent wet or warped cupboards. Microwave instructions here
Bathroom:
There are no exhaust fans, so please leave windows open a crack while showering to avoid condensation. Please ensure the shower door is fully closed (and “clicks”) to prevent slippery pools from accumulating on the bathroom floor. Squeegees are provided so you can scrape down the glass after you shower; this prevents calcium buildup and the cleaners will love you for doing it 🙂 Thanks for your cooperation in keeping the house safe.
Bicycles:
We provide bicycles for your use but safety or theft is your responsibility. Please do a quick safety check of brakes and moving parts before riding. Helmets use is advised. Please lock up bikes using supplied cables: it takes 20 seconds and will avoid a $800 replacement bill. Cable codes are on the fridge (Belongil) or bike rack (Bohemian). Take a picture of codes before you leave for easy reference. Don’t drink and ride 🙂 Take care around the potholes!
Wall bed/Murphy Bed:
The Bohemian office features a space-saving wall bed, as does the Belongil spare room. Weight limit is 150kg. As with any heavy mechanical item, the bed can be dangerous if used incorrectly. Please watch the 30-second video below before using the bed so you maximise your safety and comfort.

Driveway:
The carport is for the back unit; the garage is for the front house. The driveway is shared, so please don’t block the driveway or park on it. Nobody likes to be woken up to move their car 😉
The most important house rule is to relax, have fun, stay safe and enjoy all that Byron Bay has to offer!
